Distinguishing Left & Right and Sizes:

The Speaker Units are colour coded  Blue for Left and Red for Right. This is denoted by a coloured band on the tips of the  standard power (60) and middle power (85) speaker units. For the Power 100 speaker units this is denoted simply with an R for Right and L for left

Correct Receiver Length is Important

For optimal hearing aid performance, physical comfort and security on the ear the correct length of the receiver is essential. Oticon receivers come in 5 lengths: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Too long and the hearing aid can sink too far behind the Ear (Pinna) and the microphones become shielded by the Pinna from the incident sound coming from the front. The microphones can therefore pick up too much sound coming from above and to the rear of the wearer. It will also. not be secure on the ear with increased risk of falling off and getting lost.

Too short and it can cut into the top of the ear being uncomfortable, once again the microphones of the hearing aid can point in a less then optimal direction and there is increase risk of the hearing aid falling off due to improper insertion into the ear canal.

Optimal positioning is where the receiver wire sits flush with the temple and the actual speaker unit sits horizontally in the ear canal. Correct length can be guided by your hearing care professional, even via Tele-Audiology. They can easily be swapped over so if you feel you don’t have the ideal length this can be modified. Please see our demonstration video in the image gallery above on How to change Oticon receivers.

Correct Receiver Power is also Important

You should be guided by your hearing care professional as to which receiver power is most suitable to your hearing levels and needs. The correct power of receiver will depend on your hearing loss prescription and needs to be matched to the way they are programmed during a fitting session. Choosing the improper power will result in under or over amplification across the frequency range.
