Hearing Aid Selection & Fitting
Find a Comfortable Fit for Your Hearing Aids
Hearing aid fitting services for Perth locals, delivered by Harmony Hearing’s independent audiologists. The hearing aid fitting process is an important part of ensuring that your hearing aids are properly adjusted to the shape of your ears and hearing needs. Hearing aid fitting is carried out by a professional audiologist and may require several appointments to find the best configuration for your hearing needs.
If you have purchased a set of hearing aids from an audiologist only to find that they do not fit you well, we can help. Harmony Hearing is an independent audiology clinic in Perth that offers hearing aid fitting services to help individuals wear hearing aids comfortably and hear better. Often, the reason people struggle to hear well with hearing aids is due to poor fitting, rather than a problem with the hearing aid device.
Our Perth hearing aid fitting services are available at our audiology clinics in Shenton Park, Fremantle, and Mundaring. We can also provide online hearing aid fitting advice for individuals who are unable to travel to our clinics through our remote audiology services.
Our Perth Hearing Aid Fitting Services
Achieving the right hearing aid fitting depends on the style of hearing aid device as well as how accurately the hearing aid is programmed to the wearer’s hearing needs.
Hearing Aid Programming:
We provide a superior hearing aid programming service that is not available at most hearing aid facilities. Our hearing aid programming service includes speech simulations in real-world environments during the programming process. We achieve high satisfaction rates for the hearing aids we program because people appreciate the difference they make and the benefits they experience. We can also reprogram hearing aids for clients who have purchased them elsewhere but have not yet found a suitable fit.
Digital Programming:
Modern digital hearing aids have hundreds of parameters that can be adjusted to more accurately accommodate individuals’ unique hearing needs. We adjust the programming using the hearing evaluation results and subjective preferences of our clients, much like adjusting corrective lenses during an eye exam. For customers who have ordered a hearing aid through us, all programming and follow-up appointments are included in the cost of the hearing aid. It may be necessary to make several adjustments after wearing the new hearing aids for a period of time, as it takes time for the brain to acclimate to the new sounds the individual experiences in daily life.
Real Ear Measurements:
Everyone's ear is shaped differently, and this affects how sound reaches the eardrum. A man’s ear and ear canal can be larger than a woman’s, for example. The hearing aids need to be programmed appropriately to account for differences in ear canal morphology.
We use real-ear probe tube microphone measurements to determine how much sound is actually reaching the eardrum. These important measurements enable us to program the hearing aids with a much higher degree of accuracy compared to facilities that don’t include real ear measurements in their fitting process. It is a requirement of the Commonwealth Hearing Services programme that real ear measurements are included in any fittings to ensure that sound levels produced by hearing aids in individuals' ear canals are within safe and comfortable levels.
Environmental Stimulation:
A common complaint from hearing aid wearers is that the hearing aids sound fine in the audiologist's office when it's quiet, but fail to perform as well in everyday environments that are noisier. To address this issue, we’ve installed a surround sound system in our programming room, which we use to project real-world sounds, such as background noise from restaurants. We use this system to program more accurately for realistic use cases and to demonstrate the hearing aids' noise reduction features.
Hearing Aid Selection
In cases where the type of hearing aid is unsuitable for the client’s needs, we will recommend a hearing aid device that better matches their hearing profile and lifestyle requirements. Each type and model of hearing aid caters to different hearing needs. Factors like the type of hearing loss, the degree of hearing loss, lifestyle and environmental conditions, social conditions, an individual's dexterity, and budget are just a few considerations when selecting an appropriate hearing aid. As a local independent audiology practice, you can rest assured that the hearing aid(s) we recommend for you will not be influenced by manufacturer contracts. We will recommend the product that is best for your particular hearing needs.
