Simply set a forget you have hearing loss.
Description
Oticon Own 4 SI is the entry level hearing aid model in the range that has a high end feature set that provides a harmony of discreet design and excellent sound quality and is custom made for all day comfort. These hearing aids support the way your brain naturally makes sense of sound providing the ability to focus on the conversation and switch attention when desired. They encompass leading Danish company Oticons’ Brain Hearing™ philosophy.
Powered by the latest Sirius chip platform, these custom hearing aids utilise Oticon’s flagship operating system also used in the Oticon Intent line of devices. They utilise the advanced AI Deep Neural Network (DNN 2.0) technology of the Sirius Chip platform. This is Oticons’ second generation of DNN.
Oticon was the first hearing aid manufacturer to develop a DNN capable of machine learning. The system was trained with over 13 million sound scenes. Through automated machine learning the system learned how to rebalance any sound scene that you go into. By leaving the listening landscape open, the streams of speech are preserved from wherever they are coming from. Environmental sounds are rebalanced and made available in a natural way that is not invasive. Oticon’s research shows that this supports the way our brains naturally make sense of sound, by enabling us to focus on the desired speech signal and readily switch attention when desired. Environmental sounds are preserved and rebalanced in such a way that they are comfortable and naturally audible.
This type of sound processing is ideal for these very small deeper fitting hearing aids that also make effective use of the natural anatomy of the ears to funnel sound into the ear canals.
Discreet Styles
Oticon Own 4 SI hearing aids come in two very discrete styles, as the smallest Invisible In the Canal (IIC) and a Completely Canal (CIC) model. Both styles are precision made from an impression or mould taken of your ear canals.
Oticon Own SI hearing aids are custom made to be Ultra Discrete
Optimum Use of Your Ear Anatomy
You greatly benefit by having these devices make effective use of the natural anatomy of your ears (Pinna) where the various folds and shapes of your ears contribute to speech understanding and the ability to identify where sounds coming from. This enables you to focus on the preferred speech signal and switch attention readily to other speakers.
Another advantage of the Own 4 SI is that they sit deeper in the ear canals and so are protected by your ears from wind turbulence that can introduce a “rushing sound.”
MoreSound Intelligence™ and Amplifier™
The MoreSound Intelligence feature analyses the sound environment and in real time applies the DNN 2.0 to rapidly suppress noise and enhance meaningful sounds. In concert with this the MoreSound Amplifier™ ensures optimal amplifications of the sound details which provides the brain with access to relevant auditory information.
Sudden Sound Stabiliser
An innovative feature is Sudden Sound Stabiliser that reduces the discomfort of sudden loud sounds such as percussive dishes and also sudden soft sounds such as keyboard clicks. It does this without suppressing speech sound so as to maximise speech understanding. This real time automated system substantially improves listener comfort and reduces fatigue.
Water and Dust Resistant
Engineered to sit within a humid ear canal all day, these hearing aids are both water and dust resistant. They have an ingress protection rating of IP68. This means they are highly resistant to dust and can withstand immersion in water for a period of time. So they are durable to sweat, rain and accidental immersion in water.
Four Key Benefits of a Deep Neural Network in Oticon Own 3 SI hearing aids
- Enhanced Sound Quality & Speech Clarity
Using Oticon second generation of Deep Neural Network (DNN 2.0) provides better sound quality, noise suppression and speech clarity even in challenging listening environments.
- Improved noise reduction
Competing background noise is more effectively reduced with better identification and filtering out from the desired speech sound. This makes for a more comfortable listening experience.
- Reduced listening effort
Research shows that Oticon’s DNN 2.0 further reduces listening effort and therefore fatigue over the course of the wearers day. This frees up cognitive capacity for other processes including memory.
- Discreet, Secure and Comfortable
Advanced 3D modelling enables all the state of the art components to fit within such a tiny hearing aid. Laser precision moulding and expert craftsmanship ensure they are secure and comfortable.
Oticon Own 4 SI Colours
Available in colours Beige, light brown, medium brown, dark brown, black, transparent, transparent blue, and transparent red.
Oticon Own SI Technology Levels
Oticon Own SI comes in four technology levels and price points with the Mid-range Own 3 SI having a high level of technology for a mid-range device at a more affordable price point.
This model features a bandwidth of up to 8,000 Hz providing a broad access to speech cues. The Own 3 SI also has 48 processing channels and 16 fitting bands providing great opportunity to improve the signal to noise ratio and better shaping of the amplification to ear individuals ear across a full frequency range. Generally it is recommended to go for the best hearing aid technology within your budget so as to maximise speech understanding and comfort in background noise.
Some of an benefits of Invisible in the canal (IIC) style hearing aids such as the Oticon Own 3 SI:
- Their miniature size and invisible appearance.
- The location of the microphone in the ear canal helps with:
- natural positioning when using a telephone.
- the preservation of the natural acoustics provided by the external ear (Auricle or Pinna) that help with localising the direction of sound.
- Reduces wind turbulence as tucked further in away from wind.
Some of the limitations of invisible in the canal (IIC) style hearing aids are:
- Less power of the amplifiers and speaker unit (receiver) due to smaller size.
- Single omni-directional microphone that picks up sound arriving from all around you. Therefore less adaptive directionality of microphones to pivot their focal patterns away from noise.
- Limitations of ear canal anatomy. May be too small to be made as a true IIC to house all the components.
- There may be management difficulties if you have poor vision or manual dexterity.
- Too small to come with the option of a Telecoil.
- As they sit deeper in a humid/moist ear canal they are more susceptible to breakdown due to ingress of ear wax (cerumen) and moisture. This can be minimised with regular use of an active dehumidifying device.
- As they have a smaller surface area they are more likely to:
- feedback (e.g. whistle) due to acoustic leakage
- work loose or migrate out whilst talking and chewing
Some advantages of Oticon Own 4 SI CIC versus Own 3 SI IIC hearing aids?
A few benefits of Oticon Own 4 SI CIC over the IIC models include:
-
You can have a push button to control the volume and programs.
-
May make for easier insertion/removal and fitting if ear canal anatomy doesn’t permit the smaller deeper fitting IIC.
-
You can activate a tinnitus program via the push button.
The Mid-range Oticon Own 3 SI hearing aid, whether IIC or CIC represents excellent value for money with a high level of performance for speech clarity and comfort even in complex listening environments.
- 48 Channels and their Benefits: For accurate shaping of the amplification to your hearing levels across a wide frequency range. Also provides plenty of opportunity to filter background noise from the desired speech sound in each frequency band or channel.
- An 8 KHz Band width: Preserves high frequency speech cue that provide separation of speech from competing noise.
- Open Sound Navigator™ 3.0 is the sound processing that reduces noise whilst preserving the distinct streams of speech from wherever they are coming from. This is enabled from Oticon’s Multi Speaker Access Technology (MSAT) that ensures access to all speakers in a dynamic environment.Numerous advantages of this style include:
- Makes effective use of the natural anatomy of the ear to direct sound into the ear and preserve the natural inter-aural timing and intensity cues that help localise sound and separate speech from other sounds.
- There’s a reduction in the occlusion effect (OE) the blocked up sensation with a deeper fitting
- Less prone to wind turbulence as the microphone picks up sound deeper in the ear canal.
- Complete discretion.
