John Scott Testimonial ~ A Classical Musician with Hearing Loss Treated by Harmony Hearing in 2025

MUSIC: THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE

In all its multifarious forms, music has always been an essential part of human history.

For some of us, old age brings its worst enemy: deafness. I became aware of my affliction and the way it distorted my beloved music when I was in my early eighties. I naturally thought that modern technology would be able to make the problem tolerable.

I was in for a rude shock. As an audiological expert told me, manufacturers of hearing aids concentrate on speech recognition and the fact that many people want their aids to be as inconspicuous as possible. I tried a couple of systems, but their ability to cope with the harmonies of classical music was so bad that I had to give up listening to it.

This traumatic deprivation came at a moment of great crisis in my life. By some kind of miracle, I discovered Harmony Hearing! There, Andrew MacKendrick quickly grasped the fact that I desperately needed to find comfort in hearing the beauty and complexity of music, humanity’s ‘universal language’. It was a difficult task, but Andrew listened closely to my reactions and observations, and was truly generous in the amount of time he spent, working with me on the special needs of what we call ‘classical music’. That means taking into account the whole gamut of sound and harmony found in symphonies, concertos, chamber music, solo instruments and the human voice.

Andrew spent many, many hours patiently testing various technological possibilities and my subjective reactions. It is thanks to his skill and patience in understanding and solving these complex issues that I can once again enjoy the immense variety and beauty of classical music. I am truly grateful to have found Harmony Hearing and Andrew MacKendrick.”
